Instructions:

Five Crowns is a fast paced, rummy-style card game. The double decks contain five suits: diamonds, hearts, clubs, spades, and stars. Play begins with each player having three cards the first round, four cards the second round, and so on up to the 11th round. The point of the game is to arrange your all of the cards in your hand into either sets and runs. A set is 3 or more of the same number. Ex. 777. A run is 3 or more cards of the same suit in a row. Ex. 4H, 5H, 6H. The exciting thing about Five crowns is the extra suit and the availability of wild cards. The wild cards include the jokers as well as the wild card that changes from round to round. If it is the 4th round with 6 cards, the sixes will be wild. If the players have 7 cards, the wild card will be sevens all the way up to Kings for the last hand. Wild cards can be used to create runs or sets. When someone is able to fill up their hand with sets or runs, then all other players have a last turn to try to improve their hands. The cards are then laid down. Any cards not used in a set or run are added to the players score. These scores are added up at the end of the 11th round and the player with the least points WINS!

Because Five Crowns has five Royal Families -- the Stars, the Clubs, the Hearts, the Spades and the Diamonds -- yes, five suits in the old usage, it allows a more equal chance of making a book or a run, effectively giving each player more possibilities to readjust their hand so as to go out. The play starts with three cards and the 3s are wild; the next hand has four cards and the 4s are wild.... working up to the last hand when the Kings are wild.
